In 2015-16, Moreland School District piloted two Common Core Math curricula: Eureka Math for grades TK-5 and College Preparatory Math (CPM) for grades 6 through 8. All teachers attended professional development in both curriculum and instruction as they worked on implementing the newly adopted curricula this year.

Elementary School Math Curriculum: Eureka Math
Eureka Math is a rigorous and comprehensive program that is fully aligned with the Common Core State Standards. It was written by teachers to close learning gaps, promote critical thinking, and prepare students for advanced mathematics. Eureka also focuses on the “why” and not just the process for solving a problem.

Middle School Math Curriculum: CPM
Beginning 2016-17, Moreland School District adopted College Preparatory Math (CPM), a rigorous curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, reasoning, evidence-based problem-solving, and mathematical modeling. The curriculum supports deep conceptual understanding of the mathematical practices. The underlying philosophy is perseverance builds mastery and that mastery of concepts occurs over time.
