Anderson Receives Grant to Serve Fruits & Vegetables as Snack for Students

September 15, 2017, San Jose, CA:  The Moreland School District announced that Anderson Elementary School has been awarded the California Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) grant, which provides funding to offer Anderson students a free fresh fruit or vegetable snack during morning recess.  Beginning this week, FFVP provided an additional free fresh fruit or vegetable snack to students during the school day to teach students about good nutrition.

Moreland’s Food Service Consultant, Rick Kessler with Sodexo, applied for the grant on behalf of Anderson and oversees the District’s entire food program.  “We have partnered with our schools to increase awareness of healthy habits with our students,”said Rick.  “From our District Wellness Policy to the availability of the A-Z salad bars at all our schools. and now these additional healthy snacks for students, I’m excited to see more and more students utilize these programs.”

The goal of the California Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program is to provide new food experiences to children, to create a healthier school environment, and make a difference in children’s diets to ensure a healthy lifestyle.  Schools must meet certain eligibility requirements to apply for the FFVP.
