Moreland Middle School’s (MMS) Academic Empowerment Program has just been named the 2019 Goldin Foundation of Educational Excellence Exemplary Project, a distinguished honor that includes a monetary award of $5,000 that will go toward program needs.

A Payne 5th grade class placed 1st in a local math contest last week through Sumdog, an online adaptive learning platform that basis scores on accuracy, the number of questions answered correctly, and ranks students based on daily and weekly contests.

Eighth grade student Felipe Feldman was awarded second place for best Jazz Soloist in the junior high category for the 2019 DownBeat Student Music Awards, a national competition open to junior high, high school, university, and solo entries.

Easterbrook Discovery School (EDS) has once again been ranked as the highest individual fundraising school for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s ® Pennies for Patients ® campaign in the Silicon Valley and Monterey Bay Area for the third year in a row.

Two Country Lane students, five Easterbrook Discovery School students, one Latimer School, and five Moreland Middle School students were chosen out of almost 50,000 applicants from across the country to participate in MathCON, a prestigious national academic competition hosted by Concept Schools in Chicago later this month.

Melissa Rhyne, a Payne Elementary School parent, has been selected as the Junior League of San Jose’s Crystal Bowl Award Winner, in the category of Leadership. Melissa was nominated by the Moreland School District for her work as the President of the Moreland Education Foundation (MEF).

Moreland Middle School 6th grade student Tanish Bobde, was honored at the City of San Jose City Council Meeting on February 26, 2019 as one of 20 finalists who submitted short poems through this “Litter-ature” competition focusing on litter awareness, a collaboration between the City of San Jose’s Environmental Services Department and Office of Cultural Affairs Public Art Program.
