Moreland Partners with Libraries to Ensure Access for All

February 27, 2019, San Jose, CA:  The Moreland School District announced its partnership with the Santa Clara County Library District and the San Jose Public Libraries to ensure that each Moreland student receives a library card and online access to all their digital resources.  With a common goal of ensuring Moreland students are lifelong learners, this card will connect students to immediate online resources, as well as access to public branch libraries located in close proximity to Moreland schools.

The Santa Clara County Library District serves libraries from Gilroy to Los Altos, with the Campbell Library being the closest branch to the Moreland community.  This online library access will be free and is currently available to all district students, including current cardholders, regardless of outstanding fines. In addition, students will be connected to homework help, books, movies, music, research materials and games at all library locations including its virtual library.  Students can request a physical card at the Campbell Library branch.

The San Jose Public Library card will be distributed to all Moreland students in the fall.  Chosen as one of only a few school districts serving the City of San Jose to pilot this joint library program, Moreland students will receive a physical card and unlimited online use of the San Jose Public Libraries’ subscription/ebook services.  The design of the San Jose Public Library card will be through a Moreland student art contest that will take place in the spring.

Through Moreland’s online “First-Day Packet” process, parents chose whether to opt in for the San Jose Public Library cards.  The activated cards will be delivered to students’ schools. The cards are good for one year and can be renewed the next year during the school registration process.

This will be the Moreland School District’s second partnership with the San Jose Public Library (SJPL).  This year, Moreland served as a very successful pilot program for the SJPL’s after-school Coding 5K program, offered in all 7 Moreland schools.
