Three Moreland Teachers Selected for Wipro Science Education Fellowship

August 6, 2018, San Jose, Ca:  The Moreland School District is proud to announce that three Moreland teachers were accepted to be a part of the Wipro Science Education Fellowship program that is scheduled to begin in August 2018 at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Education.  Country Lane 4th/5th teacher Nikita Shah, Moreland Middle School 6th grade teacher Michelle Sutton, and Moreland Middle School 7th grade teacher Shane McDonough, are three of only 20 science teachers chosen in the Bay Area after a rigorous selection process.  Wipro Limited is a leading global information technology, consulting and business process services company. Started in 2012, the Wipro Science Education Fellowship is a multi-year program, which aims to nurture excellence in science education in public school systems through teacher training.

The Wipro Science Education Fellowship program builds on the teaching experience of the selected educators strengthening leadership skills and rigor within the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines by leveraging expert research practices from participating universities.  This three-year program, with a stipend funded by Wipro Limited, includes 250 hours of development training with distinguished University professors.

Each teacher will continue to teach in their respective school and will also collaborate with local communities and other interested teachers throughout the program.  The program aims to bring out leadership, reflective practices and professional development among the participating teachers. At the end of the three-year program, participants will continue as part of the STEM Urban Learning & Leadership Community, an advocacy group for STEM learning among urban students.

The Wipro Science Education Fellowship is in its sixth year of the program and has trained more than 200 educators in more than 20 school districts throughout the country.  The Moreland School District wishes to congratulate Nikita Shah, Michelle Sutton and Shane McDonough on this unique opportunity and honor.
