Latimer & Easterbrook Discovery Middle School Musicians Excel at Local Music Festival

San Jose, May 1, 2018:  Music in Moreland (MiM), along with the Moreland School District, are thrilled to announce that the Latimer and Easterbrook Discovery Middle School (EDMS) Band, Orchestra, and Jazz Band each placed first place in their categories at the Music in the Parks Festival on Saturday, April 28, 2018.

Two Moreland schools competed against several middle school bands throughout the region at Milpitas High School, host of the festival. In addition to the EDMS students, led by Music Teachers Rebecca Ayer and Nils Johnson, Latimer Middle School students, led by Nils Johnson, participated in their first Music in the Parks competition. Both EDMS and Latimer music students received the following ratings at an awards ceremony held at California’s Great America:

-    EDMS Symphonic Band: 1st Place with a Rating of Superior

-    EDMS Symphonic Strings: 1st Place with a Superior Rating & Overall Outstanding Orchestra Award.

In addition, Tenor Saxophone player, 7th grade student Felipe Feldman from EDMS, was singled out as the best middle school jazz soloist of the day, an honor he also received last year as a 6th grader.

Music in the Park hosts a series of weekend festivals that bring together school groups from around the Bay Area at a grand performance, followed by an award ceremony.  Latimer and Easterbrook Discovery Middle School’s bands competed with 31 separate ensembles from 15 different schools, 9 of which were middle schools from both around the area and out of state.
