More Students Participate in School Lunch than School Breakfast

  • The School Breakfast Program is federally funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide nutritious meals to students. It plays a crucial role in ensuring children get the food they need to focus and excel in the classroom.
  • In the National School Lunch Program, 30 million students participate across 97,000 schools and institutions.
  • In the School Breakfast Program, 15 million students participate across 91,000 schools and institutions.
  • Students who eat breakfast consistently show improvement in verbal fluency, arithmetic, memory, and creativity, as well as better performance on tests of attention, academic achievement, and cognitive functioning.
