Moreland students are making a difference in the community and getting noticed! A group of 4th grade students at Latimer School, led by Andrew Ross, launched a Sock Drive in February. The inspiration for the fundraising effort was to support fire victims following the devastating Southern California wildfires in January 2025.
In about two weeks time, the 4th graders collected more than 2,000 pairs of socks for fire victims, earning them a feature on NBC Bay Area.
Organizer Andrew Ross, along with his classmate Maddy Bocanegra and Principal Hilary Gill, were interviewed by NBC Bay Area anchor Marcus Washington for a feature that aired on Today in the Bay.
Their efforts are in line with the Moreland School District Strategic Plan. Goal two of the plan is that Students are Actively Engaged in Their Communities and are Globally Aware.
