Moreland Student Musicians Selected for All-State Honor Ensembles

San Jose, CA, January 13, 2023 - Three Moreland students have auditioned for, and been selected to perform in the 2023 California All-State Music Educators Association All-State Honor Group.

Easterbrook Discovery School 8th grader, Shogo Huang, and Moreland Middle School 8th grader, Stephen Bailey will join the All-State Concert Orchestra; Moreland Middle School 8th grader, Sakurako Ando will join the All-State String Orchestra.

These three Moreland student musicians will join student musicians from around the state who auditioned to qualify for the All-State ensembles in the areas of chorus, string, vocal jazz, and wind and percussion. The selected students will gather at the California All-State Music Education Conference in Fresno on February 15-19 to learn, practice, and perform with over 1,000 of the state’s top student musicians under the direction of nationally renowned conductors and directors. The conference is also an opportunity for music educators to connect with peers and resources to continue to strengthen their school’s program.

“We are so proud of our Moreland student musicians for their dedication and hardwork. To see Moreland represented at this prestigious event is a testament to our music educators and the Moreland Education Foundation who supports our music program” said Superintendent Clover Codd.

The Moreland Education Foundation provides support for student musicians and programming in Moreland, including the funding of new instruments each year, so all students can access music education.  MEF and its subcommittee, Music in Moreland, consists of parents and community members dedicated to sustaining Moreland’s award-winning music program for all Moreland music students.

The performance schedule can be found on the CASMEC event page.
