San Jose, CA, January 9, 2023 - The Moreland School District is proud to share that Easterbrook Discovery School and Country Lane Elementary have been recognized by State Superintendent Tony Thurmond as two of this year’s California Distinguished Schools. The California Distinguished Schools program was established by the California Department of Education in 1985 and recognizes schools that demonstrate exemplary achievements.
To select California Distinguished Schools, the California Department of Education (CDE) uses multiple measures to identify eligible schools based on their performance on the state indicators as specified on the California School Dashboard, including assessment results, socioeconomic data, and reducing chronic absenteeism and suspension rates. The exceptional elementary schools recognized this year are illustrative of the hard work, dedication, and resilience shown by educators and schools across the state.
Easterbrook Discovery and Country Lane Elementary have a deep focus on partnering with parents and families to support student learning. At both schools, students are invested in their own learning and growth, held to rigorous standards, and are provided social-emotional supports throughout the school day.
“Moreland is a special place where amazing things are happening in our schools every day. Our educators and leaders are deeply committed to providing personalized support to every student in their care, and we are honored that this work is being recognized by the CDE,” said Superintendent Clover Codd.
Staff from Easterbrook Discovery and Country Lane Elementary are invited to join their peers across the state at an awards ceremony in February. More information about the California Distinguished Schools and the state dashboard can be found on the CDE website.
Enrollment for the 2023-24 school year in Moreland School District, including Easterbrook Discovery and Country Lane Elementary, will begin January 9. https://www.moreland.org/
