San Jose, CA, September 22, 2022 -  Moreland School District is excited to announce that 7th grade Moreland Middle School student Abigail (Abby) Lai was awarded third place in the San Jose Public Library 2022 Graphic Novel Making Contest. Chosen as one of the selected winners for the Pre-Teen category (ages 10-12), Abby’s graphic novel, “Marsh the Friendly Ghost” was one of 214 submissions by 223 participants.

Her first graphic novel contest, Abigail shares that she has been drawing since she was three years old and a student in the Moreland Preschool program on the Payne Elementary School campus. Abby shares that she would like to give credit to all her teachers at Moreland for her growth and development. As a prize, Abby received an art supply basket that included high quality paints and pens, art books and graphic novels, a gift card to Illusive Comics and Games, and a guest pass to the San Jose Museum of Art.
