Moreland Teacher Named Homeroom Hero Through SAP & San Francisco 49ers Foundation

January 4, 2022, San Jose, Ca: Joanna Simon, a 4th/5th grade teacher at Payne Elementary School was one of nine teachers honored as a Homeroom Hero by the San Francisco 49ers Foundation and SAP.  Chosen from educators throughout the Bay Area who participated in the program’s virtual STEAM lessons, Joanna was recognized for completing the 49ers EDU/SAP Virtual program and continuously going above and beyond for her students.

As a long-time fan of the 49ers, I am honored to be selected by the 49ers EDU program as a Homeroom Hero!” shared Joanna Simon.  “At Payne, we patterned our design thinking process after a visit to SAP's campus a few years ago and now incorporate STEAM in all areas of our curriculum. It was wonderful for my students to come full circle to see how the 49ers and SAP use math and science in the various operations of Levi's stadium: from playing the game to planning for fans in attendance. My students loved seeing how their current enjoyment for learning could lead to exciting future careers!”

Joanna Simon was honored at the January 2, 2022 San Francisco 49er football game at Levi’s Stadium.  In addition, Joanna’s class was invited to participate in a future “hackathon” that will take place at Levi’s Stadium in the spring.

Homeroom Heroes is a recognition event through SAP and the San Francisco 49ers Foundation that serves to honor teachers who are helping to educate and guide the next generation of leaders in the Bay Area community through STEAM education.  You can learn more about the Hometown Hero program here.
