Dr. Clover Codd, District Staff, and Board Members present the Reopening of School safety precautions, guidelines, and procedures to keep students and staff safe for the 2021/2022 school year. After the presentation, Dr. Codd and staff answered questions from staff, parents, and community members.

it is 9:01 according to my computer so let's go ahead and get started I want to welcome you all here and let you know that this webinar is being recorded and it will be posted to our district website. first webinar that we hosted was also recorded and it is already posted on our website if you are interested in looking at that the content from this morning is basically the same although we've learned over the last week so might be a little bit updated I will start by introducing our panelists I'm Clover Cod honor to be your new superintendent we are also joined by Heather Sutton our school board president Shelly Hong are board trustee Patty ernsberger our assistant superintendent of business and finance we have Jen Baldwin our assistant superintendent of Human Resources Destiny Ortega are assistant superintendent of Educational Services I'm from the superintendent's office Tanya De La Cruz who will be supporting us on our back and monarchy Norwich at 4 this morning so as you send questions through this that all of our panelists will be able to read them and see them the public will not however we will be collecting answers as we go be able to answer as many questions as possible and at the end of our time as we've not been able to answer the questions have come to the shop at last time over 200 at we will be adding them to our frequently asked questions document which is posted to our website so we are continuing to update that most people have very similar questions and we want to make sure we try to stay on that as in real time as much as possible understanding that we do get new information each day so before I begin with the presentation I'd like to turn it over to Providence to make a few remarks thank you good morning I just want to take a minute here to thank everyone for your time and for all that you do on your shirt commitment green Marlin students your students are students I want to recognize that the board is very aware and very in tune to what a difficult challenge this pandemic has presented us with and that it is an ever-evolving landscaping and so we appreciate your grace your patience your understanding and your participation and I want to assure you that we are all very committed to serving your children all kids and then we will do so to the best of our abilities and that we have really great space in the experts the panel in front of you who are in the trenches doing the work and supporting your kiddos each and every day whether on site or off site and so with that I will turn it back to you after class. I must admit myself thank you for the next flight please so I will start with a headline for this morning so Moreland schools are fully opening this fall we are so excited to welcome back all of our students for full time in person instruction it has been a long road we have had staff working very hard to resent to you this fall 2021 reopening plan where we do have detailed information about our health and safety protocols and other safety measures that will be putting in place so this morning presentation is really a high-level overview of what is inside the full reopening guy that full reopening guide is a little over 30 pages in length so for those of you that want to look at the details you would want to go to our website and pull up that reopening guide and should any guidance or protocols change we will be updating that fall reopening guide in real time and this will always be accessible on our website so with that let's go ahead and go to the next fight so just Foundation of principle of the guidance that has come out on the California Department of Public Health is that all students must have access to stay and full-time in-person instruction I'm in also if my construction as possible in person the guidance is really the assumptions behind the guidance are that schools are reopening their reopening. Time I will talk a little bit later and have Destiny or take talk a little bit about our independent study program as one alternative option but the plan that we're presenting to you this morning is really about the protocols and the mitigation strategies that Moreland is putting in place and make sure that our students and our staff are as safe as possible as we continue to change with the Dynamics of the pandemic so we are placing our trust and confidence in the public health experts we are putting in place the strategies that they are saying are the the Laird strategies that will help keep our kids safe and our community safe but I'm I must remind us all that it's not just what Moreland is doing and also sort of what I do as an end of the well superintendent matters what you do as a family or staff members matters and then how we enter into schools this year together as we bring our full communities back will matter so with that let's go to the next line so as I said before there there really is an assumption that 95% or more of our students will return to in person instruction that's how we are structured is but there is an alternative should you believe that your child May face significant or increased health risk due to the coronavirus and so I will ask me go to the next song and have Destiny Ortega talk to you a little bit about our independent study program yes that is correct sir for the 2122 year they have come up with new requirements for independent study and we are offering a program for our students wear in persons direction would just pose a health risk to our up to those students we've expanded our partnership with a company that we use for Art District benchmarking supplemental program and we are providing a free key lime and then online lesson support to our. The program is going to be overseen by are more than teachers and their role is really to see where our parents as a guide them through that it's to monitor student progress while weekly meetings with families and students to ensure that their progress is up to par and making progress as they would in person instruction and then we'll also be providing a CL directive directions to those students as well as really just not an option for a student you can apply to her independent study program online it is under our enrollment tab that application goes through there's information more details on the website but once the application goes through set up with her independent study teachers and they can go into details on that program to understand if that's the right fit for your feet would you encourage families to make a choice in stick with that choice for the school year so that we have the continuity of Education that our students deserve thank you Destiny so I know we have received some questions from families in why aren't you offering a distance learning option because the independent study is not the same it is not a distance learning program and what I can say to that is we are working hard provide a partial Middle Ground where we are not offering distance learning because we are not funded or structure to offer two parallel instructional programs but we are we did receive the guidance around dependent study and we are bringing to build in war Creek elem support so that families do do feel and know that their child is receiving core content instruction but it is still good by the parents and it is self-paced and it is still truly an independent study so if that will go to the next slide so what is Moreland doing is a district to make sure that we are putting in place thank you for caution the California Department of Public Health guidelines plays a very strong emphasis in a few key areas so first and foremost that vaccinations for eligible adults and any student / 12 years of age is highly recommended and we will continue to promote vaccines for our cutie II is that Universal masking and is one of the most effective ways that we work together to prevent the spread of covid in our schools the third is that there are more targeted quarantine practices and then the fourth is that we have some access to covid-19 testing as an additional layer of safety so again this PowerPoint is high-level it's intended to convey a consistent message but the fall 2021 reopening guide is where you will find that the next light please we are focusing our efforts on six main areas to provide Universal safety measures so we think of this as a layered approach each one of these strategies or precautions independently might not be enough to prevent the spread of covid in our school but when you start to layer each one of these six strategies on top of one another we are able to manage covid in our schools and keep our students and families date so one analogy that I've heard on and it may be helpful is to think of each one of these safety precautions as a piece of Swiss cheese or swiss obviously has some holes in it but if you put another piece of Swiss cheese right up behind it the holder in different spaces and if you do that with six pieces if you will a Swiss cheese when you got a pretty good layer of mitigation strategies that we know help keep our community safe not next I please so that you understand in general the universal safety precautions so the first is that all my screen for covid-19 symptoms daily. We'll have a daily attestation that they are responsible for completing on an online format and then for students we are asking all families to screen their child for the symptoms of covid daily before sending their child off to school so you will see the screen questions are in fact in the reopening I believe we've added them to the first day of school packets along with an attestation from parents that they will in fact take responsibility to check for these covid-19 symptoms and the big highlights is please do not come to school or send your child to school if you are sick and please do not send your child to school if they are having experiencing symptoms consistent with covid-19 so the next safety precaution is universal masking face coverings masks are required for students and staff in doors at all times in all indoor settings now they are optional for outdoor settings recessed etcetera however we do encourage staff and families to make the right choice for themselves went outside and if people feel more comfortable wearing their masks went Outdoors it is it is an option for so I do encourage families to talk with talk it over with each other some students will still wear their masks outdoor some will not some staff will continue to wear their masks outdoors and will not but when we are in an indoor setting I'm it is mandatory that we all wear our masks so the third precaution if you will is Han hiking so making sure that we have built in a regular routine for hand hygiene will be in place we will teach our students for the proper etiquette how to cost if you will if your elbow we will teach students how to wash hands properly as you know we should be watching for at least 20 seconds with that stuff on her hands so we will continue to build and time to not only teach children hand hygiene but also Implement hand hygiene on a more frequent basis basis and we might have creekcove it so the next you daily clean and disinfecting and then also ventilation I am going to ask Patty arnsberger or assistant superintendent of business in operation to go over some of the cleaning and disinfecting ventilation air quality protocols and processes that we're putting in place so Patty can you take it from here sure I'd be happy to so as far as daily cleaning and disinfecting so the clarification there is that the products that we use to clean disinfect so anytime we are actually an r r m maintenance and operations staff are cleaning they are also disinfecting and so for this year what we're putting in place is that restaurants will be cleaned and disinfected least once if not twice per day and all classrooms will be clean because we're not doing the cohorting like we were doing before we'll be doing that cleaning and disinfecting once per day but that also includes not just classrooms that's also any are common spaces that we share anywhere there might be like lounges or staff rooms or those types of things will be taken care of at least once per day and that's the new guidance we've had a lot of questions about the playground areas as well and while they no requirement for that what we are encouraging as Doctor Clover mentioned is that as students come in and out from Recess or from lunch where they may have played on that we will be implementing the hand-washing and or hand sanitizing to in the classroom before they return so that is an additional layer that we're adding on to make sure that even though we're not disinfecting the actual playground structures we are at least encouraging hand washing and hand sanitizer when students return to classroom intern ventilation there's two pieces to the ventilation when is the actual ventilation the other is what we call filtration so there's two things happening so the ventilation is about optimizing the air flow from the outside and so with it limitation of armor 13 filters in our systems are systems are actually set and will be able to create enough air flow even if all the doors and windows are closed our units are set to semis that so anytime we open the door or we open a window we're just increasing the amount of ventilation above whatever those requirements are so we are encouraging that on days where you can open the windows and the doors that they would do that costumes that they're able to do that with just know that if the system is running in the doors and windows are closed it is running at optimized and it will be bringing in the maximum amount of airflow that we need in order to keep that happening so the there were I had some questions to about HEPA filters and portable system so well our systems are set if something should happen in one of those systems is not working then we are prepared to bring portable units in the classrooms to support that while those units are being repaired or worked on so that's really I think everything I can think of about that topic we also oh I know there's one other thing so we are in the process of updating our thermostats and part of the update to our thermostats includes CO2 sensors and monitors as well and so those are an added precaution that we put in place so for those classrooms that have a new thermostat it's automatic and we've actually set the monitor to alert us when the particulates per million are at a lower than required standards so that we would have time to respond and inspect and figure out what's happening those classrooms that we weren't able to get to it the new thermostats we have portable units that will be using that will be doing the exact same thing the difference there is that it's not an automated alarm it's when we have to respond to and then adjust the systems manually but we prepared to do that thank you Patty much appreciated to you and all of the staff that I've been working hard on those mitigation strategies so the last layer take a precaution that we are implementing in this is new sort of warning for the summer is implementing covid-19 testing on site obviously with parental permission I should any student or staff have symptoms.of covid now our goal with testing is to help keep kids in school and get his back to school as quickly as possible I'm sure they have symptoms that are consistent this is tricky because sometimes the system the symptoms of covid are really parallel and seem like they could be common cold flu allergy so there are some pros calls if your student or child has a known allergy or some other sort of medical condition asthma that may kind of show up as if it were symptoms of covid call around that so that we don't continue to send your child home but definitely if we've got children who have fevers are throwing up they should be staying home the symptoms to display themselves brightness full day it'll be sending them home but what we will do is look just stay at my student had some sniffles or maybe a light cough we do have on-site testing we will  the student to the waiting area where they have a special place where they're waiting to make sure that they are sort of isolated from the general office where other activities might be going on and we will be able to form from Rapid testing to find out in pretty short order 30 minutes or so whether the child test positive or negative for covid so there is a whole set of protocols behind this testing of which I am not an expert but I do not want to pretend to explain them exactly here today we will get an update on our testing protocols as soon as we get all of the information one of our district nurses is working on coordinating those efforts and we're still learning about the different protocols about the different kinds of tests that will be using Oral B I have access to some families have asked you know why aren't you doing Universal texting why aren't you texting everybody want you requiring testing and what I can say to that is we will Monitor and we will run strategies as we open school but our top priority is helping keep kids in school and getting kids back to school quickly and then should we have capacity or learn more or understand or you know be able to add on additional layers of testing that something we could consider but at this time our focus is on testing students or staff with symptoms so with that let's go to the next life the most recent research and evidence indicates that in person instruction can occur safely without the physical distancing or cohorting requirement that were put in place last year when you do have these other layered mitigate strategies and so this is not a practice that is a requirement it is something that we will encourage when it's possible and operationally feasible for instance when we are outdoor eating lunch we have talked with our principles how can you create a little more space between the students when they're eating we'll talk about eating lunch in just a moment so when feasible we will encourage the cactus although it is not acquirement because the other strategies that we are putting in place the 6 Universal strategies I talked about on the previous slide they are sufficient so that this is no longer a requirement so in the fall 2021 reopening died you will see that there is an entire I believe one and a half pages written up about how will we respond to exposure or confirmed cases of Coke and that guy didn't come straight out of the California Department of Public Health guidance one thing that is a little bit easier this year is that we don't have conflicting guidance coming out from the county versus State versus the CDC the county is falling right in line with what the California Department of Public Health is stating in their guidance or sat is the guidance that we are following very closely so the guy how schools should respond to exposure whether there's a close contact or a confirmed case in our schools in different for those who are vaccinated versus those were on so there are protocols that allows for modified quarantine for vaccinated individuals it also depends on whether students and staff were wearing masks for the outdoors so this is a very calm heated sort of different than last year more targeted in terms of how we will handle students and staff that have symptoms we will continue to trace the contacts close contacts are those who were unmasked in an enclosed space closer than that 6 feet of social distance for a period of 15 or more minutes within that 24-hour. Of time so there is more guidance that is come out about this as we start to get into the particulars of the different scenarios around close contacts in our schools and so we we look forward to getting more and more specific about this but if you are interested in those details can find those in the reopening guys that should be posted online and if not it will be today Next bike race the CDC recommends Outdoors if possible as a first level of safety for our students so thankfully in Morlan we are in California very different than the state that I come from all of our students at do eat lunch out words that is a normal practice here and then as I said before we were we will work with principles to try to stagger mealtime to the extent operationally feasible and create that more space during lunch when operationally feasible but one very exciting thing that I am so happy to announce and report to all of you is that free breakfast and free lunch is eligible for all students and more like regardless of your income so this is really good news we do ask that family still fill out the meal service form because the information on that form does give us it actually does lead to much of our funding and how we're funded in Moreland for instructional program support at cetera if you have more questions I know that we've got information on our website you can also contact us if you got individual questions about this but we are happy to report does not matter what your income is all students are will be eligible for free breakfast and free lunch please riding the bus we will be providing Transportation this year drivers and will wear masks at all times while they're on the bus if a student shows up at the bus stop and does not have a mask one will be provided. Buses will be cleaned and disinfected in the morning and the afternoon route and windows will be slightly open cuz it's increase at airflow within the bus on the bus the next light please a lot of questions about drop-off and pick-up and so as you know each school will have a unique drop-off and pick-up process because that is partially determined by our campus layouts soap for the first six weeks of school we will continue to put in place a pickup and drop procedures that were similar to last year because we want to control and minimize the number of dolts in our schools for now we will reassess his practice we need to watch the changing dynamics of the delta. and whatever may come next but for now we're going to stick with this process and please contact your school for individual procedures about drop off and pick up next week please the lots of questions about visitors and volunteers so we know the volunteers and our Community Partners are such an important part of our school Community we do not do this work alone and we will rely on Sam community-based organizations to help us Provide support to our students and our family so at this time we are limiting visitors to those who had essential business to conduct and have pre-arranged appointments on our campuses so all other volunteers for now we are going to wait on having Volunteers in our classrooms we will reassess this practice in October to determine if we can resume our volunteer activities inside our schools but for now we're just going to put a pause on that but certainly if we've got a central business that needs to be conducted visitors will have permission to come in for school they will need to check in at the front office there are screening questions that they will be asked to answer same screening questions we're asking of our staff and our students and so that is where we are visitors and volunteers for now and then if you have any updated guidance or change that decision we will certainly let you know next Cyprus so at the protocols that we have in place our outline and they are attached to our fall 2021 reopening plan and those will continue to evolve and shipped so even as late as yesterday we received guidance on protocols and so we will continue to update those protocols in the reopening guide in real time and you'll be able to find that most up-to-date reopening guide which will be on our website so next flight please so we will be communicating mostly through our website this is where you will find the most up-to-date information that we have is also the place you think where we will continuously add information to our frequently questions are FAQ documents and a scab transition back to full-time we do ask for your patience and Grace as we implement the new guidance that changing guidance and we manage the Dynamics of the pandemic we we don't have all the answers right now we know there are many more questions than we have answers but we do promise to share with you in a very transparent way I'm all the information that we have to date and ask him to change admit to putting that information on our website so I know that we have several questions that have come in and chat today many of those questions are similar to questions families and staff have asked prior to today so we are going to I have a question for the question answer session of which I believe Tanya De La Cruz is going to join us now and help lead us through that so thank you so much for being here today okay can you hear me okay so one question that came simple when was just when does school start so if people would ask for TJ or 7th grade school starts for everybody you pay through 8th grade on August 19th next Thursday the next question if you have unvaccinated bass teachers will they be mandated to wear masks and doors in classrooms so yes all students and staff will be required to wear masks or face coverings in doors regardless of vaccination status so that that is a yes my child has special needs and is on the word math as a result how do we go about getting a medical exemption for the mask requirement for him so there is a medical exemption form that you can see in the fall reopening guy that is supposed a website that should be submitted to the child's principal and then documentation by a licensed physician or a mental health provider stating the need for the face covering exemption is required and there may be recommendations for alternative but that is the process that you use will vaccinations be required for all students and staff so at this time we are not required vaccinations for students and staff it is highly recommended for those are eligible we will continue to promote back beans we do have over 90% of our staff currently that are vaccinated we are hoping we can promote and encourage that to become more and more as we get closer and closer to the start of school but at this time we are not requiring it until and unless some other sort of foresight agency or the California Department of Public Health mandates it then we will follow that at that time will volunteer programs be allowed on campus this year just a little bit in school to start a few different things right so Bulls about a volunteer activities or Gatherings that may occur Outdoors because we know that that is create a lower risk of transmission of Cobra that is allowed but for indoors we're putting a pause on the volunteers I talked about this unless they're essential business that needs to and there's a pre-arranged appointments and sign in process at the office okay I'm the Delta variant has been reported to presented with symptoms closer to allergies or a cold I want the district be screening for these more common and were ignored by tonight symptom yes so our office staff are from schools are teachers they are all well-trained professionals they do understand the symptoms of covid what the symptoms are consistent and certainly sometimes it could be hard to tell whether it's a common cold or whether it's actually covid so this is one of the most important reasons that were implementing our testing program should any student or staff have symptoms that are consistent with covid-19 the on-site testing that rapid test that will be able to tell us whether the child or the staff test positive for covid or negative and we be able to make quarantine decisions based upon those results so was there another part of the question, okay will you promote parents to keep kids home and feeling L versus pushing for attendance partaking in any kind of a condense sort of attendance awards for perfect attendance this this is not the year to do that we really want people to take care of themselves we want staff to know that if they are feeling ill they should stay we want parents to know that should their child have symptoms or feel ill or B6 that they we want to promote staying home when sick we don't want to promote coming just to work or are you not feeling well will schools require staff teachers do covid tests regularly so we can ensure students Under 12 were unvaccinated Tuesday station the classroom and we are doing test for anybody that has them. Powerschools ensuring 6-foot distance in between kids all throughout the school day with m going back to school at the same time so even though we've been we've been talkin about the fact that this is no longer a requirement but we keep getting questions very similar to this and so I want to just for the social distancing and cohort is not a requirement evidence does say that if we are putting in place these other safety Laird mitigation strategies we do not have to implement this practice it is not require but we will continue to encourage our principles to be as creative as possible to distance as appropriate and as operationally feasible will students be placed in cohorts with f the one thing about elementary schools which district is that mentary schools are sort of organized classrooms in school not be having a strict Gordon protocol and place this year what will be the processor protocol at the student or students family is tested covid positive what will the quarantine protocol so the quarantine Protocols are pretty detailed and of course they depend on whether you're vaccinated and unvaccinated whether students and staff were Master unmask at the time of the close contact and so those are outlined in the reopening plan I know Jen you have been working with your colleagues in other districts and you've been talking with sort of experts about this do you have anything you add to this idea of quarantine isolation sort of targeting modified quarantine is there anything you could add there you know I think the important thing for parents to understand is that we are only following the guidance of the health department and as it changes we will adjust and we have our nurse working with investigations of students and I will be working investigation of staff and what we will do cuz we will determine any degree of close contact and then we will follow the protocols and I have the listing and in front of me hearing and basically what we do is we we go down you know are they vacs were they wearing a mask and each part of the tree will lead to another part and essentially it will determine whether they are excluded from Campus Inn in students are wearing their masks will be given a modified quarantine in and they can continue to attend school given that they are asymptomatic symptomatic students and stuff so that's kind of like for underlying belief but we will follow the tree to ensure that we're following a county guidelines and ensuring the safety of all of our stuff so an additional question kind of came in about Testo just just right now if a family member test positive and the student is asymptomatic will the child still be able to attend school do you know the answer to that or we still waiting on guidance around that that they didn't have real trick is always this close contact and so if that student was a close contact to that family member you know 50 more than 15 minutes then they will follow the protocols for a covid exposure and so in this case it is not a modified exposure because they are unmasked and and well basically we would go down here and it says that we would have to test them right away that would be the first thing that we would do and that their quarantine could be shortened when we test on day almost all of the time with students we will test them initially and on the spot and so that is kind of how the protocol works and I think there's a kind of answer the question yeah so I'll see you mean the child is on vaccinated as most of our students are under 12 years of age I do believe there is a quarantine protocol because they're there is a close contact that has occurred with somebody who has a confirmed case this actually just happened in my own family over on the east coast we had a confirmed case in the household but the little ones who are supposed to start kindergarten in second grade yesterday did not have but they were absolutely in close contact with her older sister and mother and so they are on a quarantined this week and we will fall day are following the same guidelines that we are here in the state of California so it is on for but it is what we need to do to make sure that we're being extra cautious and following the guidelines and keeping our our communities face thank you and every question we got em like is there any potential cases within the classroom or the grade of my child I misspoke the last time we had this webinar on on August 3rd I have been corrected so the answer is if there is a confirmed case of covid in your child's classroom you will receive a letter notifying you that that is the case and if you are if your child is considered to be a close contact the child in the classroom after we've done our investigation of the day and who was no next to who and playing with who you would receive an individual call from our district and we would walk you through the the different kinds of quarantine protocols yes you will be notified Pace in my child's classroom walleye is a parent have the option to keep my child at home until is confirmed an older student or staff in the classroom has been infected so if your child is not considered a close contact and again we would notify you if that is the case that the California Public Health Department does not recommend that you keep your child home from school that is where they stand at this moment in time and so certainly if your child has symptoms you should definitely keep them home and perhaps we'll get them tested but if your child was not a close contact a do not have any the recommendation is that you do send your child to school you said that at California now offers free lunch how do we get a refund on our Titan account Quest refunds by sending an email directly to Rich Hustler that email is our Kessler at Moreland. Or or you can send them to. Sanchez vs anches at Moreland. Org you are requesting a refund who is responsible for monitoring the CO2 sensor levels in the classroom will they alarm in the is reach an unacceptable limit what is the limit what happens when a classroom reaches the limit what is what will the plan response be so Patty would you let Patty did address this over all in the presentation but if there's anything Patty to talk about industry standard for parts per million what will we do if the sensor does go operation unacceptable in it right so for the thermostat. Have been changed out the new ones it sends a message to the mot department so it's not like an alarm goes off in the classroom but it does send a message to the mot department for those that are on the portable ones then those are the ones that will respond to what we did is that the industry standard is what they call a thousand parts per million we've set our sensors to notify us when it when or if it reaches 800 so that we have time to respond and be able to take care of whatever needs to be done to navigate to circumstances so if we get home can we get them tested at school or should we get our own testing so we will allow you to come to school and get the free testing we will have the testing on each of our campuses and at the district office so that that would be okay if you did come to the school to get them tested I saw a couple of times and people ask how they can sign up for the bus so our transportation department is open if you come over to the district office at 4711 Campbell Avenue or the form is online at Moreland. Org the sign up for the bus and people have asked about the free and reduced bus passes if you fill out the free and reduced meal application I will also carry over for chance will there be Sports as Middle School this year so there will be so the guidance is please continue on with all of your extracurricular activities Implement as many health and safety protocols possible but the underlying assumption behind the answer to yes is that we know that schools offer much more to our students than an academic setting are also play where students develop socially in different ways they there are many reasons for being in communion with one another in these extracurricular activities so sports are still in curry and there is more guidance out from the California Department of Public Health and Santa Clara County around Athletics and things like band and music so as we he's me receive more guidance we will be sure to get that out to you he and in-person interchangeable in case Hillcrest changes no sew Destiny can you talk a little bit about sort of moving in and out of sort of person versus ISP that timing a bath or the rules around that before you do I'll just say there is no plan at this moment in time to shut down classrooms or school should there be cases are confirmed cases so bad in our classrooms or our schools however should the county or the stage or some other organization that provides oversight to school districts direct us to close we would then need Implement our distance learning program from what we did have left all those our schedules and program that we had in place and negotiated with our Teachers Association those are also in the appendices of the reopening plan but that would be sort of a contingency emergency plan if some other agency direct us to close down but in terms of the sort of back born between the ISP program in the in-person program Destiny can you just give us a few more specifics about the the rules and the the law around that urge you to pick one program and stick with it or the car beauty of their instruction and then decides if they want to go back in person we will return that student in person learning in 5 days of that however given Staffing in enrollment every attempt will be made to put them at their home school however we can't guarantee that if some one should develop please turn mid-year and is requesting you go from in person to ISP we will work with that family to see if that's the appropriate program for them it may be there may be other options for that student believe that family destiny families are asking how they sign up for the ISP program so if you go on the enrollment at our web page under enrollment there is an ISP it'll provide some more details about the program there's an application link on there so you would go in and fill that out please make sure you're already involved in Moreland School District before doing that. But once you still up there it goes through or I escaped and they will contact the family you've done more information answer their questions if they have and then the family will decide if that's the appropriate program were them and they will get some formation there is a series of steps that will happen after that there will be an orientation there will be directions given to that parent for how to access all the materials and program will also be a written agreement which means the agreements between the District in the family and the student to make sure that we are pulling all the responsibilities of independent study and that our students are signing up for it and do what what they're responsible for it if that agreement is broken then will need to meet with families to decide if that program is truly the best program for that child thank you so much I'm I do see a question here about music class what will music look like in between especially with wind between Patti and Destiny can you talk about one of the safety procedures we are putting in place for music yeah so music will occur this year and we are working with our instrumental music teachers to by the appropriate circles Bell cover so far are wind instruments so they go on the end of the instrument to stop some of the air float that's coming to that instrument because we will be indoors during the we also are still continue with there are smartmusic app so there will be opportunities for our staff to work with our students on instruction at home as well that was very successful it will also have that I'm continuing this Players Ball thank you I need that articulate that much better than I could so I thought I'd just passed you the softball and how to answer it thank you more questions Tanya and we did have somebody asked about the social emotional learning in the ISP program could you talk about that so we are going to have primary kids in a weekly SEL lesson are are students in grades four through eight that was requested to come through about adding that social emotional learning into IST and so he will be doing that are more than teachers will be providing that instruction and just like we do we are going to be utilizing promote cheese and second step which are both programs that we used throughout our schools in Moreland what happens if a student chooses not to wear a mask so I guess what I say to that is we are an educational organization and our first and primary job is to teach so I always think about refusal to follow summer as an opportunity to be a teachable moment so we will teach students about proper mask-wearing we will make sure students understand it is a requirement indoors we will support our star students and being compliant with that and then if we happen to try those interventions in those teachings and we still have a student that is refusing to wear a mask and they don't already have a medical exam and we would talk with the family because perhaps maybe there needs to be a medical exemption and if we've gone through that stuff and it really is just out of non-compliance we the logic has asked that we were moved students from the in-person learning environment and move them over to the ISP program we asked the cutest and students will dress out for PE what does that mean in does that apply to Destiny to talk about to eat a little bit sure so that's actually for middle school so that's traditionally be our middle school students dressed in their PE uniform and they will do that this week Sweden's is better Elementary level just wear their regular clothes like they have always in the past will you be opening doors and windows for cross ventilation so as how you described in the presentation that is an option for us our HVAC and filtration systems and Protocols are set to meeting requirements when doors and windows with a full paucity of students in the classroom but should should teachers and staff want to open Windows and Doors that is definitely something we can do it it would just continue to increase that mentally assemblies be held Outdoors what school field trip so I will start by saying we did get guidance from the county office of Ed science camp science camp have their own very strict health and safety protocols for covid near being asked to just continue on with those plan we are putting a pause on other types of guilt what's that may require going on the bus going to a museum at cetera at cetera I do encourage walking field trips those happen often in elementary schools where you can go on a field trip around your own local community I walking and it is outdoors we are asking that schools do not host assemblies or Rally's in doors those could be done outdoor with the proper precautions and so we are basically saying please do as many Gatherings everything you can out doors and do not schedule those indoor assembly is where everybody is in a cafeteria or an auditorium at this time well if School site provides testing or would it be done at one central location for the entire District district office will be a site for testing and will there be more hand washing station yes how do you can you talk about the hand washing stations and what we've purchased as an extra sort of layer for hand washing so for any of those areas where we don't have sinks in the classroom we have purchased outside hand washing stations that will be available for students to use as well during the day and then again even if we don't have sinks in the classroom we do have hand sanitizer available in each classroom so we are encouraging anytime students come in from Recess lunch whatever that they utilize the hand sanitizer if the indoor sinks are available another limit but if they end up being positive so yes so any student that has symptoms of covid and escorted down to the office where there is a separate waiting area so that they can be isolated from the main office activities this is actually requirement to have a special waiting area in our schools every school must have one and so that is the protocol will back to school night be on soon we are asking a back-to-school night Beyonce this year again this fall we want to minimize the number of adults in our schools and our hallways in our classrooms and so just to be safe we are asking that it be on sale but one thing we also learned after acting on the last 18 months is that many more of our families had access when we provided these new opportunities for meetings as opposed to in person so that's something we want to continue to look at it doesn't require people to come to the school site that Zoom meetings have been very effective and much more apparent and feeling participation so we are going to have back to school night on here maybe last question. Question okay I'm very concerned about the notification of covid cases within the school since the virus can be spread before showing symptoms I will you account for the greater transmission rates of the Delta Fair I will families be able to keep our family safe without appropriate notification or exposure so again we will be diligent with our contact tracing we will be diligent with notifying families the other thing that we have decided to do thanks to some parental influence and recommendation we are going to be putting in place a dashboard on our web site will we will be able to help them communicate do our families covid cases confirmed that are occurring in our in our district and so that will help us sort of monitor what's happening in our schools overtime and so we look forward to getting that out when we sort of nail down the details about dashboard we know that this is all very tricky we know that we will continue to adjust we will continue to get new guidance will continue to listen to your questions and update our guidance and any other protocols that need to be put in place and I just want to thank you all for being here today it means a lot to ask but you when tuning if you will and we hope that this is helpful to you as you and your families and if you're a staff member prepare for the start of school so it's that we're going to sign off I want to thank our panelists today for being here and I want to thank all of you for be here so have a wonderful day and we will see you soon
