Student Services and Special Education

Welcome to the Moreland School District Student Services and Special Education Department.  The Moreland School District Student Services and Special Education Department staff members collaborate with families and community members to cultivate a learning environment to enhance student success through the following programs:

Special Education

A student may qualify for special education services after an assessment has been conducted in accordance with Federal Guidelines, the student has been found to have a disability and, as a result of those impairments, the student meets the criterion for special education and related services under one of the following categories of special education eligibility:

  • Autism
  • Deaf-Blindness
  • Deafness
  • Hearing Impairment
  • Mental Retardation
  • Multiple Disabilities
  • Orthopedic Impairment
  • Other Health Impairment
  • Emotional Disturbance
  • Specific Learning Disability
  • Speech or Language Impairment
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Visual Impairment

 

Based on a student’s needs, a student may receive one or more of the following services:

  • Designated Instructional Services
  • Speech Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Adapted Physical Education
  • Health Services
  • Behavioral Intervention

 

A full array of placement options exists to provide a continuum of services, based on the student’s identified needs:

  • Resource Specialist
  • Special Day Class
  • County Office of Education
  • SELPA Classes
  • Non Public-Schools/Agencies
  • Home Hospital Instruction

 

The Moreland School District is a member of the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) III. SELPA III maintains a Community Advisory Committee (CAC) to provide support and information to parents. Additional information regarding the SELPA III CAC is available at http://www.selpa3cac.org.
