Superintendent's Message

Dear Moreland Families,

Each week I walk through our classrooms and schools looking for ways our collaborative learning partnership is experienced and put into practice. I am inspired by the many acts of generosity I see from students, staff and families. Even though our schools are a microcosm of our larger national context, I am reminded of how the important and intentional acts of kindness, empathy and appreciation set us apart. As we enter into the final two months of the school year, I encourage each of you to reach out to those around you in ways that are uplifting and model for our students the power of individual acts.

Climate and Culture Survey

When we return from Spring Break, we kick off our annual Climate and Culture Survey from April 14-25. This is an important opportunity for your voice to be heard as we ask our families, staff and 4-8th grade students’ perception on their experiences in Moreland. Each of our schools use this information to improve student belonging, school learning strategies, staff feedback and support, and family engagement. The link will be sent out April 14 and we look forward to hearing from you!

State Testing

California uses the CAASPP assessment program to monitor student progress. Students in grades 3-8 will participate in testing between April 21 and May 23, with each school site setting their exact schedules. The CAASPP is one important indicator of student achievement, as it demonstrates how our students are doing in relation to California’s grade level standards. While we want students to be ready to demonstrate their learning, it is also essential to remember that we use multiple data points, including classroom based assessments, to inform our instruction and programs in Moreland. In order to best support your child, here are a few tips to help your child prepare.

Open Houses

Open House season is here! These are great opportunities to connect with your child’s teacher and school. You can find the 2025 Open House dates and times on our website here. I hope to see you there!

Upcoming Spring Events

Spring Break is next week. A reminder that all schools and the District Office are closed April 7-11. I encourage you to take time to enjoy the blossoms and all our beautiful area has to offer.
