Superintendent's Message

October Banner

Dear Moreland Community,

What a pleasant change to have a slight chill in the air this October morning! I wanted to connect with you about some happenings around the district. The Moreland Education Foundation’s (MEF) beloved Pumpkin Patch kicks off tonight, and this month marks a time to thank our school leaders for their dedication.

Pumpkin Patch

The MEF Pumpkin Patch opens tonight! This beloved Moreland tradition brings the entire Moreland community together for all the things we love about October. The Pumpkin Patch is located in the Moreland Woods at 4835 Doyle Drive, San Jose and the event relies on volunteer support. You can sign up to volunteer here and learn more about all the events on the MEF Pumpkin Patch website here.

Principal Appreciation Month

October is National Principal Appreciation Month! This is the perfect time to thank Moreland’s amazing principals and assistant principals for all of their hard work and dedication to our students. They go out of their way to ensure school is running smoothly, and time after time they go above and beyond to support our entire community. Please join me in thanking them for all of their leadership and commitment to Moreland.

Great ShakeOut

As part of our district-wide emergency preparedness, all Moreland schools will be participating in the global Great Shakeout earthquake drill on Thursday, October 17. During this annual event, the entire district practices how to react and respond safely in the event of an actual earthquake. You can find some helpful tips on how to prepare an Emergency Supply Kit here. Please also refer to our School Safety website for details on school-wide emergency drills, and the Emergency Procedure and Communication site for information about your role in an emergency.

Enrichment Grants

MEF has launched the fall Enrichment Grants submission process for all staff and students. You can read more here. MEF grants support our schools by funding initiatives such as piloting new programs or community-building activities. Students are especially encouraged to submit grants that allow them to engage in their communities and be globally aware, which aligns with Moreland’s Strategic Plan. Grant submissions are being accepted through October 22.

Measure U

We sent out an informative letter to our community about Measure U on the November 5 ballot and the option for those 65 years and older to apply for a waiver if Measure U passes. Our current Measure G expires at the end of this school year and brings in $1.5 million annually to our operating budget. Measure U will simply extend, with no tax increases the existing parcel tax at $142 annually. You can find out more information about Measure U here.

Thank you for being a member of the Moreland community, and have a wonderful weekend.
