Parcel Tax Exemption for Seniors

On May 5, 2009, voters approved a special Parcel Tax assessment for $95.00 per parcel for eight years. Parcel Tax funds allow Moreland School District to attract and retain qualified teachers, maintain high-quality science, reading and math programs, including classroom technology and learning materials, keep class size small and keep school libraries open and accessible to students. The tax is assessed against each parcel of taxable land within MSD boundaries.

Exemptions from the $95.00 Parcel Tax are available to Senior Citizens (65 years or older) who own and occupy, as a principal residence, a parcel and apply to the District for exemption.

In addition, we have available Supplemental Security Income Exemption (owner/occupants receiving supplemental security income for a disability) and a Contiguous Parcel Tax Exemption. Applications are due beginning March 1, 2015 until June 15, 2015. Please pass this information along to the seniors in your neighborhood.

To file for exemption from the parcel tax, seniors must apply in person and bring the following items with them.

• Proof of birth (driver’s license, birth certificate, medi-cal card, or passport)

• Proof of residence (current utility bill, DMV identification card)

• Proof of ownership (property tax bill, tax bill w/homeowner’s exemption)

Seniors who applied last year for the exemption will be mailed a renewal form on or around March 1, 2015 for this year. They need to sign, date and mail their form to the District Office, 4711 Campbell Ave. SJ, CA 95130, Attention: Debbi Lyon, Business Services. For questions, please call (408) 874-2921.
